Claude
Claude, from Anthropic. Long documents, careful writing and reasoning through problems step by step.
What it does well
- Reading a long PDF and pulling out the argument, evidence and gaps
- Editing for clarity while keeping your voice
- Building small interactive tools and visualizations with Artifacts
- Working through a problem in Projects with your course files attached
What it does poorly
- Breaking news without web search on
- Replacing reading you're being assessed on
What makes it different
A very large context window and Projects make it strong for working across many long files at once; Artifacts turn answers into documents, apps and diagrams.
Quick start
- Create a free account at claude.ai.
- Start a Project and upload two readings from the same course.
- Ask: “Where do these two authors disagree, and what evidence does each use?”
- Ask for a one-page comparison table as an Artifact.
- Challenge one claim: “Quote the exact sentence that supports this.”
Strengths and limits
- Strength: Long-document reading
- Strength: Careful, nuanced writing
- Strength: Good at admitting uncertainty
- Limit: Usage limits on the free tier
- Limit: Fewer built-in media features than some rivals
