Writing with AI, not by AI
Brainstorm, outline, get feedback and edit, and keep your voice.
What it is
AI is most useful for writing as a sparring partner: generating counterarguments, spotting unclear passages and tightening prose you wrote.
Why it matters
Writing is thinking. Outsourcing the draft means outsourcing the thinking, but a good critic makes your own draft much better.
Key ideas
- Ask for critique before asking for rewrites.
- Keep a record of what the AI contributed.
- Read your course's AI policy before you start.
Try it: Get a tough reviewer
- Paste a draft paragraph you wrote.
- Ask: “Act as a skeptical reviewer. What's the weakest claim and why?”
- Revise it yourself, then ask again.
